Plot Data Extractor
Click plots. Extract values.
A free Chrome extension for researchers who need numerical values from scientific figures without a multi-step digitisation workflow. Calibrate the axes, click the data, capture error bars and export clean CSV files.
Built for scientific data extraction.
Use a precision crosshair to extract values and error bars directly from plots displayed in Chrome.
From plot to CSV in four steps
Choose the plot type
Select an XY plot or bar chart. The extension guides you through the appropriate workflow.
Calibrate the axes
Enter known axis values, then click their corresponding locations using the precision crosshair.
Click values and errors
Capture data points, bars and error bars. Undo individual actions if a click needs correcting.
Export the results
Review the extracted values, then copy or download a timestamped CSV with source provenance.
Designed for common scientific plots
XY plots
Extract numerical X and Y coordinates from scatter plots, line plots and other figures with numeric axes.
- Linear and Log10 axes
- X errors, Y errors, both or neither
- Two-ended or one-sided displayed symmetric errors
- SD, SE, 95% CI or other error metadata
Bar charts
Extract values from categorical groups using Y-axis calibration and an automatic click sequence.
- Custom category labels
- Symmetric, asymmetric or no error bars
- SD, SE, 95% CI or other error metadata
- Error limits and error magnitudes in CSV output
Focused on the simple extraction jobs researchers do repeatedly
Guided workflow
A live CURRENT STEP panel tells you what to click next and collapses completed steps.
Precision cursor
A high-contrast purple crosshair and open-circle cursor keep the underlying data point visible.
Useful provenance
The source URL is included in exported rows so extracted values can be traced back to the figure.
Research-friendly output
CSV files include values, error limits, error magnitudes and error type where applicable.
PDF workflow
For PDFs opened in Chrome, create a local captured view of the visible page and extract from it.
Start fresh instantly
New extraction resets the workflow so you can move safely between figures and browser tabs.
Need to work directly with complete PDFs?
Plot Data Extractor Pro is being developed as a dedicated PDF workflow for selecting pages and figures and extracting data at high resolution.
Frequently asked questions
What is Plot Data Extractor?
Plot Data Extractor is a free Chrome extension for manually extracting numerical values and error bars from scientific plots. It is designed for fast, focused extraction where you can identify the relevant points visually.
What plot types does it support?
Version 1.0 supports XY plots with numeric axes and bar charts with categorical groups and a numeric Y axis.
Can it extract error bars?
Yes. XY plots can have X errors, Y errors, both or neither. Bar charts support symmetric, asymmetric or no error bars. Error type can be recorded as SD, SE, 95% CI or other/unknown.
Does Plot Data Extractor upload my figures or data?
No. Extraction and CSV generation take place locally in your browser. Plot Data Extractor does not send your figures, extracted datasets or browsing activity to Blazon Scientific or third parties.
Can I extract data from PDFs?
Yes. When a PDF is displayed in Chrome, the extension can create a local captured view of the visible PDF page. Plot Data Extractor Pro will provide a more complete whole-PDF workflow.
Ready to extract your first plot?
Install Plot Data Extractor for free and turn plotted values into analysis-ready CSV data.
